Sometimes I actually love hopping on the treadmill instead of going outside for a run. It is almost easier than heading outside, but not really. It's easier in the sense that you can push yourself harder than you can by just running outside.
My favorite treadmill run to do is a sprint workout. They go by so fast and you're sweating buckets by the end of your run. Here is my favorite sprint workout- it's tough, but it's basically over before you know it.
One word of advice! Pay attention to the shorter intervals! I have started to daydream durng the recover intervals and next thing I know I am 20 seconds into the next sprint interval. Oopsie! Notice I don't daydream during the sprint intervals? Haha.

I get a little bored with longer runs + normal speeds on the treadmill. That's when I would prefer to be outside. Some ways to cub your boredom while on a treadmill?
- secretly race the person next to you (or a person a few treadmills away from you)
- watch t.v - I usually wind up watching the real estate channel or a show about a german shepard rescue dog.
- try to text - it's pretty much just as dangerous as texting and driving ;)
- Kenny's advice? Stare at someone's butt in front of you. "You can't really have much fun on a treadmill" Haha!

Questions:
What are some of the ways you stay entertained while using a treadmill?
Do you prefer to do interval runs or steady paced runs?

Gahhh I hate the treadmill, but when you do a workout lie this, it makes the time go by so much faster! Great stuff here Heidi :)
ReplyDeleteit really flies by!
DeleteI hate going to gyms, but interval training is so hard outside. This is such a brilliant exercise I am definitely going to try when I get to the gym next :)
ReplyDeleteI agree, it's much easier to do interval training inside!
DeleteYour tips for not getting bored are great. I always race the person next to me. I hate when someone is running faster than me. i also find that doing intervals on the treadmill keeps me from getting bored. Rocking out to a great playlist helps too.
ReplyDeleteracing is pretty fun:) music definitely helps too!
DeleteI hear ya...I love, love, love the treadmill! I usually stay entertained by counting the amount of people that get on and off the other treadmills while I'm on mine, hehe. For longer runs, I also set short 1 mile goals and alter the pace or incline every mile.
ReplyDeleteI definitely people watch during my time on the treadmill:)
